THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An anganwadi teacher was suspended in Kerala’s Thrissur district for forcing a three-year-old girl to drink urine.
The shocking incident, which occurred on October 31, came to light after the girl’s parents complained to the child development project officer, who is in charge of the government-funded anganwadis.
“The teacher, Mary Dominic, was suspended on Monday after we received complaints from the girl’s parents. We will conduct an inquiry and take further action against Dominic,” said Kodakara block child development project officer VL Joseph said. The suspended teacher remained incommunicado on Tuesday.
The girl had wet her clothes in sleep at the anganwadi centre in Muppliam. An angry Dominic then forced the girl to drink her own urine with a spoon. In her defence, Dominic said she made the child drink urine to help get rid of the habit of wetting clothes.
