Pregnant women ‘victimised’ at work
The Daily Mail
Pregnant women are being victimised at work. They face discrimination, are refused rest breaks and passed over for promotion, according to a survey of human resources staff.
One in seven said managers in their organisation did not respect the rights of pregnant employees.
One in five had been approached by a pregnant worker who complained of facing discrimination.
A similar number had witnessed an expectant employee being passed over for promotion.
Some of those questioned said they had seen a pregnant employee being pressurised to over-perform to compensate for taking time off for check-ups.
Around one in seven said women had been made to feel they had let the company down by getting pregnant.
The survey of 600 employees was carried out by People Management magazine and baby charity Tommy’s, whose chief executive Jane Brewin said: “It is clear that pregnant women are continuing to be made to work under pressure and to be made to feel guilty from the moment they announce their pregnancy.”
