Kids and Clothes
You should allow your child choices about which clothes he or she will wear as soon as possible, and having a choice of 2 or 3 outfits available to choose from can make all the difference in the world to finicky youngster.
For a child who could care less what they wear it will offer valuable practice in learning the decision making process. This begins the process of establishing a self image when dealing with a child in motion ( as opposed to a child before they learn to walk and talk). Remember that necklines must be wide enough to slip over the child’s head with ease (and avoid a real struggle with a difficult child).
Preschoolers will appreciate plenty of pockets, as this is the age when they begin collecting things they find, like pretty stones, leaves, twigs, the odd invertabrate, and so on…
Try to name the clothing items as they come on or off to teach those important nouns, and learn to make a distracting game of it for the less docile children (Peek-a-boo where is your head? Can we find your arm?).
