NOSE clippers, putty and financial advice are among the worst Father’s Day presents dads have received, according to a survey marking Father’s Day this weekend.

Accommodation website wotif.com asked 533 fathers in an online poll what they did and did not want to unwrap on Sunday.

A weekend away with the kids was the top pick for what they wanted, followed by a weekend away without the kids.

Rounding out the top five was a day with the family, something for the shed and breakfast in bed.

But 60 per cent believed Father’s Day came second to Mother’s Day, with mums pulling far better presents on their special day.

When asked about the worst gift they had ever received on a Father’s Day, dads gave some surprising answers which survey staff voted on to find the worst five.

A tub of putty, a book on financial management and a vacuum cleaner were the worst presents, closely followed by an IOU and nose hair clippers.

Another dad received chocolate-covered peanuts, despite being allergic.

Wotif.com Australian markets manager Saskia Moon said the findings also showed many fathers received nothing or 11th-hour gifts purchased from the supermarket.

“Jocks and socks were nowhere to be seen amongst the responses provided by dads, with a holiday away and having all the family around highest on the wish list this year,” Ms Moon said.

“Unfortunately, while respondents could correctly identify what dads would most want to receive, few had any intention of buying them.”
