Giving time rather tha things is very important. Too many people get caught up in buying their kids all the latest toys and gadets, then they don;t spend any time playing or interacting with their children because they figure the toy will keep them busy while they watch the game/movie. While planning out daughter first birthday, I had to stop and say "we're spending $300 on decorations and gifts and a costume that we're trying to make sure she won't dirty, and the poor baby hasn't been to the park in 2 weeks." So we scaled the party down, invited tons of family and kids so she could play and mess up whatever she wanted, and she had a blast. You hardly ever rememer what you got on your birthdays, but you never forget the silly things you did with mom and dad. Excellent post. This was vry refreshing.
